From molecular complexes to functional materials based on them

Mikhail Kiskin, Prof. Dr.

N.S. Kurnakov Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry, Russian Academy of Sciences

The report is devoted to the development of methods for molecular design of functional materials using coordination chemistry approaches. Results of studies on the chemical design of new coordination compounds of transition and rare earth elements with unique functional properties (luminescent, magnetic and catalytic), original strategies for the synthesis of hybrid materials based on homo-, heterometallic and mixed ligand coordination compounds immobilized on the surface and in the volume of solid phase matrices are presented.
Within the framework of the direction on synthesis of new heterometallic carboxylate complexes, in which 3d metal atoms are combined with other 3d metals, alkali, alkaline earth and rare earth elements. A series of new molecular complexes were obtained, which were used as secondary building units for synthesis of metal-organic frameworks, which showed their efficiency as catalytic and electrocatalytic systems, sorbents for gas storage and separation, luminescent and magnetic sensors. New approaches for the preparation of functionalized mesoporous aerogels containing chemically immobilized metal complexes have been developed.
